Great Falls is the county seat of Cascade County. The city takes its name from the series of waterfalls that Lewis and Clark had to portage around in their 1805-1806 Expedition. Great Falls is known as the “Electric City”, having five hydroelectric dams in its vicinity, along the Missouri River.
